Free and Low Cost Counseling in Orange County


There are many resource in Orange County for affordable counseling. Read the tips below and then choose the type of counseling you are looking for.

 

  • In case of emergency, please dial 911 or go to your nearest hospital emergency room.
  • If you or someone you know is in suicidal, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
  • This list is a partial one. You can also call the county's 211 directory to get linked to resources. Just dial "211".
  • The resources in this directory specialize in different areas of counseling. Do some research to find the best one for you.
  • Most agencies will not let you choose your therapist. If you are assigned a therapist that you do not feel comfortable with, ask for a new one. All agencies should respect your request.
  • If you have health insurance, call them and ask for a list of referrals. Ask them what your mental health coverage is. Note that recent laws require insurers to cover certain mental illnesses to the same extent as physical illnesses.
  • If you wish to see someone in private practice, ask them if they have a "sliding-scale fee". You may be surprised how flexible therapists can be on their price.
